Give Your Clothes Storage a Boost with these Useful Accessories

Your wardrobe is one of the essential pieces of bedroom furniture, and the one thing people tend to think of next once they've got the bed sorted. Once it's in place, you probably don't do much to it other than, of course, putting clothes in and removing them when you need them.

But with the addition of a few accessories, you can easily turn it into a nice dressing area and help ensure your clothes stay in top condition. These are the things you should add to your wardrobe to maximise its usefulness:

Shelving

You don't have to go for mounted shelves to increase what can be stored in your wardrobe. Just buying a small, floor-standing set of shelving that can be placed at the bottom gives you somewhere to keep socks, underwear, accessories, and other small items of clothing.

Mirror

You most likely have a mirror somewhere that helps you get dressed, but having one fixed to the wardrobe keeps everything together and creates a compact dressing area to make it easier. With sliding wardrobes, you can fix a mirror to the outside, but make sure it doesn't stop the door from sliding open. With hinged doors, you can fix it to the inside and open it up when you need to use it.

Lighting

Wardrobes can be a bit dark, making it difficult to find what you're looking for. Some simple LED lighting fixes that problem, and you can buy compact lights that attach with adhesive so you don't need to get the tools out. They can be attached pretty much anywhere, so place one or two at the top, and perhaps one inside the door. Alternatively, strips of LED lights can run along the full inside width.

Dehumidifier

If your clothes get damp, it can spell disaster for delicate fabrics. With items of clothing you don't wear very often, you might not notice a problem until you really need them. A small dehumidifying unit stops damp from building up inside the wardrobe, keeping everything safe and dry. Remember to check it and change filters whenever you need to.

Moth repellent

Another common issue with stored clothing is that moths often eat the fibres. There are lots of different ways you can send them packing, but blocks of cedar wood are one of the most simple. Cedar also has a nice aroma, so clothes will come out smelling fresh even if they've been hanging for some time.
