Whether you are an entrepreneur setting up your very first office or you have been asked to set up a new satellite office for your employer, doing so from scratch takes a little know-how. Firstly, there will be the information technology infrastructure that you'll need to put in place. Then, there will be the tenancy and leasing details to sort out. Of course, one of the most important considerations for new offices is the sort of furniture you will need, too. Some office furniture can be quite generic and – if you are going to be honest about it – a little boring. So, if you want something in keeping with your business brand, then you might want a commercial fit-out of your furniture to give you a special look. Regardless of whether you opt for an office furniture fit-out or not, what are the key items you'll need to make your office an efficient place of work from day one?

Reception Desks

Commercial office outfitters often recommend reception desks which are truly eye-catching. This is because the reception is the place in your office which will make the first impression on anyone who comes in. If you want to impress clients and members of the public, then a solid reception desk with a raised platform is the most impressive way to go. If your reception will be open to disabled people, then it is worth considering a lower section to be built into it so that wheelchair users are adequately catered for, too.

Waiting Room Chairs

Your reception area may need a visual display showing what your business does as well as a few pot plants to make it come alive. What it will also need – in terms of furniture – is good seating. Waiting in a reception area to be met by a member of staff is uncomfortable on hard-backed office chairs. Instead, go for a simple sofa or a couple of comfortable lounging chairs.

Workstations

These days, desks are not much used in modern offices. Instead, workstations are preferred because they provide an area of working space, just like a desk, but much more. Underneath, they should have cable trays to keep the power and Ethernet wiring neat and tidy. They should have adjustable heights so that each office worker can get on with their job comfortably, as well. Many will come with docking stations so that laptops can be plugged in with ease, too. Of course, all workstations need to be supplied with a chair which can be adjusted and tilted to suit individuals.
